Ok, so I've now put together a photo journal or as they're called now days, a photo blog. I have several photos that are by themselves, pretty good but don't fit into any type of project, now those photos have a home. I'm working on updating this at least once a week.

South Manitou Island trip

The family and I took a camping trip over the July 4th weekend (2008). One of our stops was a day trip to South Manitou Island. South and North Manitou Islands are part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore near Leland, MI. The islands are only available by ferry which departs from the historical "Fishtown" in Leland, MI. The photos in this gallery are some of the highlights of the trip.

Capitol Line: Chicago to South Bend

My family and I took the Amtrak Capitol Line out of South Bend, IN to Chicago, IL. This route passes through some heavily industrialized areas, the most notable being the US Steel Gary Works in Gary IN. The route basically travels right through the middle of the Chicago area of "The Rust Belt".
The photos in this gallery are a sort of recollection of the trip from Chicago to South Bend.

The Violin Maker

Scott Tribby is a local violin maker and stringed instrument repairman. I could have spent hours in his shop, there was just a wealth of interesting subjects. In total, I spent about 15 to 20 minutes there. I was photographing with a group, and had to move on (and let Scott get back to work). We was very generous to let us take up some of his time.

Kalamazoo Train Station

Inspired by some work I had seen in my previous KIA classes on photo essays, in February of 2005, I decided to try my hand at a small photo-essay on the Kalamazoo train station. This gallery is the result of roughly two hours of hanging around the station. I was pretty lucky to have had two trains stop over and leave while I was there.

Kalamazoo Farmers Market

In the spring of 2004, I took a class at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts named Picture Story. The course was taught by Mark Bugnaski, a photographer for the local news paper. The course covered the basics on how to create photographic essays. I chose to document the people and activity at the local Farmers Market.
